Hidden Battles on Unseen Fronts
Patricia Driscoll and Celia Straus' new book Hidden Battles on Unseen Fronts documents the increasing number of cases of physical and mental/brain trauma such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) among our veterans returning home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.  As advancements in medical science have allowed more of our soldiers to survive their physical wounds the veteran healthcare community faces many new challenges.

Starting with an introduction by Brigadier General Loree Sutton, Director of the Defense Centers of Excellence in Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury, Hidden Battles demonstrates a unique collaborative effort between the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans' Affairs to "get the word" out regarding what they are doing to support the mental health care of our wounded warriors.  All proceeds from the book go to disabled veterans to help them meet the challenges of TBI and PTSD.
From Soldiers and Marines wounded in combat who eventually discover that despite severe physical injuries their greatest disability is in their head, to support personnel such as a single mom who returns from Iraq having witnessed atrocities that leave her with severe PTSD, but perseveres juggling work and family, the voices of these warriors reinforce the book’s over-arching theme of resilience and courage.
